Reduce number of unneeded copies

This patch aims at reducing the number of copies for obejcts that could
be referenced rather than copied, because they're not modified during
the computation.

Use specific monospace fonts as fallback on Mac OS X.

Qt (4.8.6) doesn't seem to be able to resolve the generic monospace
font family.
